Company Introduction

We, Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) in Sri Lanka is looking for Buyers Worldwide to sell best quality Clove Oil produced by us using steam distillation.

The Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) is a Statutory Board, which came into existence on 01 April 1998 by virtue of the Science & Technology Development Act No. 11 of 1994. Industrial Technology Institute is the successor to the Ceylon Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (CISIR), which was established in 1955. The Industrial Technology Institute that operates as a market-oriented partner to its clients and stakeholders is a wholly owned organization of the Sri Lankan Government and functions within the purview of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Our Mission is to provide demand driven scientific industrial R & D and internationally competitive Technical services to catalyze rapid industrialization for the benefit of the people of Sri Lanka. The Industrial Technology Institute remains the leading and largest scientific R&D and service organization in Sri Lanka with a complement of multi-scientific staff collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams.

Industrial Technology Institute (formerly CISIR) has been involved in the distillation techniques and analysis of Essential oils since 1960 and the first to develop and introduce distillation units in Sri Lanka incorporating modern techniques for distilling spice oils from Clove bud, Cinnamon bark, Pepper, Nutmeg, Cardamom, Clove bud, Ginger and Lemongrass. This work was initiated and carried out by a group of Our (then CISIR) scientists led by renowned Dr. R. O. B. Wijesekera

In 1989 Industrial Technology Institute (then CISIR) carried out a UNIDO funded project on value added products from essential oils and spices that included a survey on Essential oil distillation units in Sri Lanka. This survey identified the shortcomings in the existing distillation techniques that resulted in poor quality and yield of oil. As a result ITI designed and developed a distillation unit with modern technology successfully.

The ITI commenced the transfer of know-how in 1999 to the Public and Private sector and so far we have designed and fabricated distillation units for distillation Cinnamon leaf oil, Cinnamon bark oil, Citronella oil, Clove bud oil, Lemongrass oil and Black Pepper oil.

Under this same project our scientists were trained in essential oil distillation and oleoresin extraction techniques through fellowships in Poland, France, Turkey and India.

With all the required expertise ITI has ventured into export of clove bud oil in order to further upgrade the quality of clove bud oil produced in Sri Lanka by steam distillation using our own equipment developed & designed by ITI

The volatile oil is obtained by steam distillation from dried flower buds of Eugenia Caryophyllata.
Clove oil is frequently used in perfumery and medicine. But the largest part by far is used in flavors. It is also used as a raw material for the isolation of Eugenol.
The bud oil contains 78-98% total Eugenol, but 10-15% of this is Eugenyl Acetate, which is partly responsible for the characteristic odor. Minor constituents are Caryophyllene, humulene, aliphatic Ketones, furfurol and some furfurol derivatives.

Clove oil is also obtained from the stem and leaves, but the odor and flavor differ somewhat from the true bud oil.
